Night patrols

Image
Night patrols are our most important commitment. Donations from our generous neighbours are helping us to keep our cars running through the night while looking for suspicious activities to report to authorities. With fuel prices skyrocketing this help is more necessary than ever. Please, visit our GiveaLittle page or ask for our bank account details if you'd like to help. GiveaLittle: https://givealittle.co.nz/.../beachhavenandbirkdalecommun... Keep in mind that the best donation you can give is your time, two hours can be extraordinarily useful to keep your Community safe, join us now.

Always around

Kia ora! Our volunteers are always around patrolling streets and public places, taking note of anything suspicious or out of place and contacting the authorities if needed. We're always looking for new patrollers to improve our visibility and dissuasive effect. Get in touch and join today. A 2 hours patrol can make a big difference reducing the opportunity for crime.

Phone scams

Image
The Department of Internal Affairs and New Zealand Police are alerting the public to a SMS phishing campaign. Messages indicate you’ve received a notification from your bank and ask you to click a link and complete a transfer payment. If you receive any suspicious text messages, do not click any links included in the message. Report the text spam for free by forwarding the message to 7726. Remember genuine banks or organisations never contact you to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account. If you are in any doubt about a message, contact your bank directly to confirm before clicking any links. If you’ve been a victim of a scam you can contact CERT NZ at cert.govt.nz or call 0800 2378 69 for advice and support.

Love lost scam

Millions of dollars a year are being swiped by scammers taking advantage of those looking for love online. NZ Police are receiving a consistent stream of reports from people who have been scammed by a ‘person’ they have met online via either a dating website or a dating app. Those who carry out romance scams are experts at what they do and will seem genuine, caring, and believable. Unfortunately, they are present on most dating platforms. We’re aware of a repeat pattern of events across all reports, where the scammer typically moves the conversation from a reputable dating site to WhatsApp and quickly professes their love and admiration for the victim, before revealing they are a wealthy businessman or military staff who are based overseas. Once trust has been gained they request financial assistance from the target. The method of payment request depends on the proficiency of the victim. If the victim is able to open a cryptocurrency account, then buying and sendin...

Night patrols

Image
Kia ora.      Night time patrols are an effective crime deterrent tool for our Beach Haven & Birkdale Community. No offender would be happy while roaming our streets knowing their physical description and vehicle details are being recorded and passed on to Police.        However, dissuasive effect depends on how many and how frequently these patrols are deployed. As a matter of fact, to be driving around consumes petrol. Beach Haven & Birkdale Community Watch has recently applied for the Auckland Council grants program to get funds to cover our petrol expenditure. In the meanwhile we are still paying for fuel from our pockets.        We know times are hard for everyone, but with your help we'll keep our patrols running, please consider to make a donation through our GiveaLittle page or flick us a Direct Message to get our bank account details, petrol vouchers would be very appreciated too.        A...
