Community Connections Event

Image
A big thank you to all the people present in the "Community Connections Event" organised by our local MP Shanan Halbert. Our volunteers established very productive contacts with other like minded organizations like Kainga Ora, Community Patrols New Zealand, Maori Wardens and, of course, NZ Police. Together we care.

Community Connections Event

Image
Come along this Saturday to meet our community Police team, North Shore Community Patrol, Kainga Ora, Whānau Ora, Beach Haven & Birkdale Community Watch and others and find out more information about what work is going on in our Beach Haven/Birkdale Community.

Rainy night patrol

Image
Cold and rainy nights are a big opportunity to those offenders trying to take advantage of empty streets and rain noise to conceal their activities. Knowing that, Beach Haven & Birkdale Community Watch is trying to deploy as many patrols as possible during these nights. We hope our presence might dissuade those looking for a chance for wrongdoing.      Thanks to your generous donations, our patrollers are getting petrol vouchers to partially cover the gas expenses. Your donation keep our patrols running, please visit our Give a Little page: https://givealittle.co.nz/.../beachhavenandbirkdalecommun...      We are always looking for more volunteers to join our initiative, please get in touch today to get more information.

BHBCW website up and running

Image
Beach Haven & Birkdale Community Watch is pleased to announce that our website is up and running. This one contains updates about our activities and safety news related to our Community. It is possible to get in touch with us, join in, donate and learn more about our group using this site. Please, share the address with all your neighbours. Together we care.

Petrol vouchers

Image
Thanks to the donations we got from our generous neighbours, we've been able to buy a first set of petrol vouchers.   This is not just an essential help to keep our patrol cars running, but a valuable token of trust. We greatly appreciate our Community members support, but we also acknowledge the responsibility involved. We will be out there, patrolling to make our neighbourhood safer. Thanks.   Together we care.

Survey: how crime is affecting our Community?

Image
An online survey, aimed to know how crime is affecting our Community, was created by our local MP. Please, take a few minutes to fill it out, it would help to identify the issues so the authorities can assign resources to sort them out. Here's the link: https://www.labour.org.nz/shananhalbert_survey

Police presence increased

Image
Police will maintain an increased presence in the Beach Haven area to provide reassurance to residents amid unease following a recent drive by shooting. “We understand the community’s concern and our increased visibility is part of our commitment to ensuring everyone is safe and feels safe,” says Area Commander Inspector Stefan Sagar. There has been considerable work and effort over the last week to investigate the shooting in order to hold those responsible to account. If members of the public have any information that can help the investigation, please contact Police by calling 105 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Dissuasory effect

Image
We're still out there, patrolling our area. We do this because we feel that our presence is dissuasory for those that want to commit a crime in our neighborhood. Criminals don't want to be seen while going, doing or being coming back from their "bussinesses". We still need more volunteers to give a better coverage to our Community. Please, get in touch with us if you can invest 2 hours of your time improving the safety of your neighbours.

Night patrols

Image
Night patrols are our most important commitment. Donations from our generous neighbours are helping us to keep our cars running through the night while looking for suspicious activities to report to authorities. With fuel prices skyrocketing this help is more necessary than ever. Please, visit our GiveaLittle page or ask for our bank account details if you'd like to help. GiveaLittle: https://givealittle.co.nz/.../beachhavenandbirkdalecommun... Keep in mind that the best donation you can give is your time, two hours can be extraordinarily useful to keep your Community safe, join us now.

Always around

Image
Kia ora! Our volunteers are always around patrolling streets and public places, taking note of anything suspicious or out of place and contacting the authorities if needed. We're always looking for new patrollers to improve our visibility and dissuasive effect. Get in touch and join today. A 2 hours patrol can make a big difference reducing the opportunity for crime.

Phone scams

Image
The Department of Internal Affairs and New Zealand Police are alerting the public to a SMS phishing campaign. Messages indicate you’ve received a notification from your bank and ask you to click a link and complete a transfer payment. If you receive any suspicious text messages, do not click any links included in the message. Report the text spam for free by forwarding the message to 7726. Remember genuine banks or organisations never contact you to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account. If you are in any doubt about a message, contact your bank directly to confirm before clicking any links. If you’ve been a victim of a scam you can contact CERT NZ at cert.govt.nz or call 0800 2378 69 for advice and support.

Love lost scam

Image
Millions of dollars a year are being swiped by scammers taking advantage of those looking for love online. NZ Police are receiving a consistent stream of reports from people who have been scammed by a ‘person’ they have met online via either a dating website or a dating app. Those who carry out romance scams are experts at what they do and will seem genuine, caring, and believable. Unfortunately, they are present on most dating platforms. We’re aware of a repeat pattern of events across all reports, where the scammer typically moves the conversation from a reputable dating site to WhatsApp and quickly professes their love and admiration for the victim, before revealing they are a wealthy businessman or military staff who are based overseas. Once trust has been gained they request financial assistance from the target. The method of payment request depends on the proficiency of the victim. If the victim is able to open a cryptocurrency account, then buying and sendin...

Rewarding morning
