  People tend to think that we do patrols to catch the bad guys red handed, although such a thing is certainly possible, the main benefit of our patrols is prevention. Patrolling regularly an area and being visible while doing so, might convince potential offenders that chances to be caught are too high to even try. Our approach is preventative: reducing chances for offenders to commit a crime and get away with it will avoid crimes. That's what we do. We're locals, taking care of our Community.   Police would like to remind vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are secured and any valuable items are removed when they’re unattended. While Police are committed to actively investigating vehicle theft and holding offenders to account, people should take precautions to prevent their vehicle from being targeted. 🔐 Ensure your vehicle is locked, and all valuable items removed or concealed from view when you are not with it. 🔐 If possible, park your vehicle in a garage, but if it must be parked on the road, try to park in a well-lit, busy area. 🔐 Invest in a steering wheel lock or other anti-theft devices for vehicles and trailers.   Hello Community! Firstly, we want to say a big thank you to you all for continuously sending us messages to report suspicious activities in the area. This collective effort allows us to plan our patrol routes in a way to maximise our deterrent effectively. We do not work for the NZ Police, we are just volunteers working in partnership focused on prevention.    "QUITE A MORNING WE HAD. We cleared up the clothes that were just dumped in the car park at Sheppards Park. We found it difficult to ignore, and we blame the influence of our kaumatua Whaea Jo who cannot tolerate a mess being left behind in our public places 😏 We also helped 2 cars that broke down on Rangatira Road only 1 meter away from each other. One of the drivers needed petrol ⛽ and couldn't walk due to ankle injury, so we drove her to the Caltex ourselves. A really nice lady who shares our passion for the volunteering lifestyle.   Tonight, we enjoyed a very fruitful meeting with recently appointed Sargent Hanfei Yue, officer in charge of Glenfield Police Station and Constable Devon Wright, community constable assigned to our area. We were discussing how to improve our communication with Police, we opened a new channel to share our findings and got advise about how to improve our patrols. To keep an effective cooperation with NZ Police is one of our highest priorities and tonight we found a very supportive local Police team. We look forward to strengthen ties with them. Remember: Beach Haven and Birkdale Community Watch efficiency depends on the number of patrols we deploy. The more patrols, the less opportunity for crime.        A big thank you to all the people present in the "Community Connections Event" organised by our local MP Shanan Halbert. Our volunteers established very productive contacts with other like minded organizations like Kainga Ora, Community Patrols New Zealand, Maori Wardens and, of course, NZ Police. Together we care.

    Cold and rainy nights are a big opportunity to those offenders trying to take advantage of empty streets and rain noise to conceal their activities. Knowing that, Beach Haven & Birkdale Community Watch is trying to deploy as many patrols as possible during these nights.   Thanks to the donations we got from our generous neighbours, we've been able to buy a first set of petrol vouchers.   This is not just an essential help to keep our patrol cars running, but a valuable token of trust. We greatly appreciate our Community members support, but we also acknowledge the responsibility involved. We will be out there, patrolling to make our neighbourhood safer.   An online survey, aimed to know how crime is affecting our Community, was created by our local MP. Please, take a few minutes to fill it out, it would help to identify the issues so the authorities can assign resources to sort them out.       Police will maintain an increased presence in the Beach Haven area to provide reassurance to residents amid unease following a recent drive by shooting. “We understand the community’s concern and our increased visibility is part of our commitment to ensuring everyone is safe and feels safe,” says Area Commander Inspector Stefan Sagar. There has been considerable work and effort over the last week to investigate the shooting in order to hold those responsible to account. If members of the public have any information that can help the investigation, please contact Police by calling 105 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

  We're still out there, patrolling our area. We do this because we feel that our presence is dissuasory for those that want to commit a crime in our neighborhood. Criminals don't want to be seen while going, doing or being coming back from their "bussinesses". We still need more volunteers to give a better coverage to our Community.
